1948 witnessed the inauguration of a unique University, Assam Agricultural College which aims at producing global competitive human resources in farm sector. In the year 1969 the college earned the status of being a University and Assam Agricultural College (AAC) and Assam Veterinary College (AVC) became a part of the Assam Agricultural University. The main aim of is to impart knowledge and optimal exposure to students in the field of Agriculture and Farming sectors.
Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah is the current Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University. College of Agriculture formerly known as Assam Agricultural College and Biswanath College of Agriculture form the two major colleges of Agriculture under AAU Jorhat. Graduation and Post-Graduation courses in Agriculture are the only courses offered by these colleges. AAU has the honor of being one among 4 colleges that were selected to present their projects in the Singh - Obama 21st Century Knowledge Initiative Program. Extension activities and programs form an integral part of AAU, contributing their best in the respective fields. Expansive Library, Training & Placement cell also form an integral part of AAU and its responsibilities.
Assam Agricultural University has conduct many exams on a regular basis for their UG/PG courses like B.Sc. (Agri), B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.Sc. (Home Science), B.F.Sc, M.Sc. (Agri), MBA (Agri Business), M.Sc. (Agri) in Seed Science & Technology, Post-Graduate Degree Programme in Veterinary Science, Post-Graduate Degree Programme in Home Science & Fishery Sciences etc Semester/Yearly.
